What a great start to a wonderful season.  Not only are anglers fishing in short sleeves, they are having some of the best fishing ever.  Early season fishing is back folks!  No crowds, hungry fish and weather that has been warmer than Texas.

Texan guests, Stewart Henderson and his 3 sons, William, Clay, and Matt were wonderful guests enjoying the....

Lately I’ve been answering  a lot of questions and addressing various concerns of some first time anglers.  After over 25 years of being in this business, I thought it might be fun to go off the charts from what is “normal” and write about the “truth,” as I see it.  I promise no hype, as advertising today is saturated with it, an....

We have no winter snow!  We closed up for the season and flew back to Anchorage at the end of September, and the mountains had no new snow.  I have never seen that in over 40-years in Alaska.  We left the lodge to the bears and nature, and there were plenty on the home river, since million of Pink salmon had spawned and died, leaving an abundance of food for the Rainbow.....

It has taken a long time to bring a new blog forth, but the opening of two lodges and all that entails has kept us pretty busy.  When the days start getting longer in Anchorage I know it is time to begin the mad rush.  Spring came 3 weeks early this year and when Chris flew down to the lodge early this spring to check the ice for bringing in fuel, found he couldn’t even l....

I'm back in the swing of things now, gone 10 days and it seems like I never left.  I was able to say hello and goodbye to old friends at the airport in Igiugig, and fly back to the lodge with the new weeks guests.  So much fun seeing the people that we have known so many years that they feel like family.

Summertime in Alaska and the living is HOT!  Mind you, I'm not complaining, but fishing in shorts and short sleeves?  I realize this is not considered hot in some areas of the U.S., if it reaches 80 here we are all panting, turning on fans, drinking iced tea in large quantities and swimming in the lake.  I am constantly reminding our guests to load up on the sunblock, as....

The difference between opening week last year and this year is about a 30-degree difference in temperature.  This first week has been glorious, with blue skies and plenty of sunshine.  Our normal adventurous team of hearty, fun loving, anglers are back this year, with some new welcome additions.  A far cry from last years 34 degree water and not being able to wear enough....

Spring is late this year.  At the lodges we saw several fox trotting by, always on a hurried mission to find something good to eat, a Beaver poked his head through a hole in the ice, Bald Eagles were mating and preparing their nesting sites.  Tundra Swans, Canadian Geese, Cranes and ducks had no open lakes to land in so hundreds are feedin....
